BMW Plant Hams Hall
The
engine production facility at Hams Hall is the first BMW engine plant to be built outside
Germany and
Austria, recognising the importance of the UK as a major world economy and the BMW Group's third largest market.
BMW Plant Hams Hall plays a crucial role in BMW Group's international production network as the centre of competence for production of all four-cylinder petrol engines for both BMW and MINI.
In January 2007, series production began of three technologically updated versions of the NG4 petrol engine family for BMW brand products. The updated N45 (BI-VANOS) and N46 (VALVETRONIC) engine variants have introduced features that bring further improvements in performance and fuel consumption. The new N43 variant employs second-generation, high precision direct fuel injection, providing further significant improvements in fuel economy and CO2 emissions.
In June 2006, production of a second family of four-cylinder petrol engines commenced for the new MINI. As the sole supplier of engines for the new model, Plant Hams Hall plays an important role in the UK-based MINI production triangle.
